Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had happy and safe holidays!

Exhibition
I have had a painting accepted into the 58th annual New Hampshire Art Association Exhibition at the Currier Museum of Art. The exhibition will run from January 20 through February 20, and I'd like to invite anyone who's interested, and in the area, to come to the opening, which is on Thursday, January 19th from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. I will be at the opening, so come join me for some excellent art and of course, cheese cubes! If you can't make it to the opening, stop by the museum during regular hours to see the exhibition, which is free with admission. Check the Currier's website for directions and hours.

Daddy's Girl
The wonderful people at the Children's Museum in Portsmouth, NH have arranged to have my original illustrations from Daddy's Girl displayed in their gallery. The show will open January 18 and run through the end of February. This show will help the museum celebrate Black Heritage Month, since the characters in Daddy's Girl are African American. This will also be the first solo show I've ever had, and I'm very excited about it! On Saturday, February 25 at 1:45 p.m. I will read Daddy's Girl to museum visitors and be available to sign copies of the book, which will be sold in the museum's gift shop. Following my reading, there will be a concert by African drummer Jordan Benissan at 2:00 p.m. If you'd like to come to the museum to specifically see the Gallery, admission is free, and admission to the museum is $6 for adults and children, $5 for seniors, and free of charge for members and children under 1. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. If you have children, check out this museum! I went just recently with my boyfriend and his 7 year old nephew, and man did we have a blast! The "lobster boat", "post office" and "space shuttle" exhibits were given two enthusiastic thumbs up, and my boyfriend and I are now "cool"! Who knew?!

Teaching
Another semester at Kimball Jenkins begins for me on Thursday, January 26. On Thursdays, I'll be teaching Intro to Painting from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and Intro to Drawing from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Then on Fridays I'll be teaching Cartooning from 4 to 5:30 and Illustration from 6 to 8:00 p.m. If you'd like to sign your child up for a class, please visit their website, or call 603-225-3932. I'm excited about this upcoming semester, because I learned a lot from last semesters classes!

Website
Some of you may have noticed that my website was down for a few weeks before the holidays. I was trying to update it to make it a bit easier to navigate, and a little easier for me to make changes to it! There is now a section on the website called "paintings", and has a few pieces that I'm pretty proud of. A lot of these pieces are a result of the Advanced Painting class I took at UNH last semester. So take a look, and let me know what you think. There's also a section now with recent press.

Mural
I've been asked to do two murals for Community Action, which is based in Portsmouth, NH. This project is still in the beginning stages, so there's not too much to tell you at this point. Once I get going though, I'll be sure to post a few pictures on the website of the process. Murals are always a blast to do, and I don't get to do nearly enough of them, so keep that in mind if you have a poor sad empty wall in your home! :)

READ!
This month's recommendation comes directly from an awesome Christmas present I got this year. My brother is three years older than me, and growing up, I would want to do everything he did. That included what he read. So when he started a collection of Uncle Scrooge comics, that's what I read, and I loved them! Of course, he now lives in a tiny apartment in Boston, and has since gotten rid of that collection of comics. Having shared my resentment about that with my boyfriend, he gets me two Uncle Scrooge comics for Christmas! So, if you like crazy scottish ducks who hoard their riches in a giant bin, and take regular swims through their one multiplujillion nine obsquatumatillions....then track down a copy of a Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge comic, drawn and written by either Carl Barks or Don Rosa.

Cheers
As always, if you know of anyone in need of artistic talent, please feel free to give them my information. Thanks for reading this far, and stay tuned for more N.E.V.A. news next month.
